Dr. Lisa Whitten earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Anthropology at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in 1977 and her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies at Adelphi University in 1982. Dr. Whitten has been on faculty in the Psychology Department at the State University of New York, College at Old Westbury since 1986. In 1996, she was awarded the State University of New York Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, and in 2009, she was one of the Association of Black Psychologists Distinguished Psychologist Award recipients. She has consulted with numerous colleges and medical schools on the role of culture in health care, African American student development, teaching about diversity, and enhancing the success of medical students who are students of color.
