DESCRIPTION:An Interdisciplinary Panel\, Community Forum\, & Virtual Kwanzaa Celebration! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAs the holiday season and winter weather gear up\, fears about the COVID spread are increasing. We are all managing the internal and external pressures to make choices related to the COVID vaccine\, mask wearing\, social distancing\, and strategies to stay healthy. At times\, these decisions have divided relationships and caused tension within our families and communities. How can we use the spirit of Kwanzaa to focus on reconnecting and renewing our strength as a community of people amid the COVID divide? \n\n\n\nThe dialogue will focus on building healthy communication and collaborative problem-solving around COVID-related decisions\, along with routine holistic wellness practices that can be used by all to promote a healthy lifestyle. She is a current board member and past president of the New York Association of Black Psychologists. Dr. White-Davis earned her degree with a concentration in Health Psychology from Nova Southeastern University. She completed a two year post-doctoral fellowship in Primary Care Family Psychology with a Pediatric Psychology track at the University of Rochester. She also completed the Behavioral Science Family Educators Fellowship program within the national Society for Teachers of Family Medicine which has enhanced her work in graduate medical education. She is director of the Division of Primary Care Behavioral Health Education\, and a full-time faculty member in the Department of Family and Social Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx. In this position\, Dr. White-Davis teaches and manages the behavioral health education within the Family Medicine\, Social Pediatric\, and Primary Care Social Internal Medicine Residency programs. Additionally\, she teaches and supervises primary care psychology trainees in the Advanced Primary Care Psychology Fellowship and Primary Care Psychology Externship programs. Dr. White-Davis has provided primary care psychotherapy services to children\, adolescents\, and families of the Bronx\, with professional interests in bullying\, race and racism\, family systems and empowerment\, primary care psychology\, and health disparities.\n\n\n\nThis event is free and open to public\, members and non-members\n\n\n\nThe Harambee Initiative aims to inspire\, encourage and uplift Black individuals\, families\, and communities as we face the COVID-19 pandemic. Francesca is based in Brooklyn\, New York where she sees adults\, couples and groups in person and online\, and teaches therapists and other trauma specialists about mindfulness\, the nervous system\, attachment\, embodiment and racialized trauma. Francesca also hosts the  Francesca Maximé Archives – Be Here Now Network 2020  where she explores the intersection of psychology\, neuroscientce\, sprituality\, social justice\, and the creative arts. Francesca was also the recipient of the 2019 International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies Student Advocacy and Service award for her contributions in the field of advocacy\, clinical work and traumatic stress\, as well as the 2019 first prize winner of the   Allen Ginsberg Poetry Awards  for her poem\, “Pleather\,” recently featured on PBS television. SUMMARY:Healing Conversation: Coping with Racial Trauma and Channeling Black Rage & Pain
DESCRIPTION:As we continue to witness and experience anti-Black violence\, most notably with the recent murder of George Floyd\, and be disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic\, community support and dialogue are essential. \n\n\n\nJoin NYABPsi for a healing Conversation on addressing our racial trauma and channeling Black rage & pain.   \n\n\n\nThis workshop will explore the signs & symptoms of racial trauma\, the most effective healthy coping strategies to address trauma\, and ways to manage Black rage and pain.   \n\n\n\nTogether we’ll learn how to overcome barriers to healing from trauma and how to create a Healthy Coping Action Plan for sustained engagement and stress reduction. This healing conversation will be facilitated by NYABPsi past president Dr. Richard Orbe-Austin. \n\n\n\n\nAbout Richard Orbe-Austin\, PhD \n\n\n\n\nDr. Richard Orbé-Austin is an executive coach and a licensed psychologist. He is a co-founder and partner of Dynamic Transitions Psychological Consulting\, a career and executive coaching consultancy. Dr. Orbé-Austin is a Past President of the NY Association of Black Psychologists\, and a former executive board member. She is Board Certified in African-Centered/Black Psychology\, initiated and certified in Ancient Egyptian Yoga Level 2\, and certified in Transpersonal Breathwork and Transpersonal Psychotherapy. Dr. Lewis is a Past President of the New York Association of Black Psychologists and former board member of the National Association of Black Psychologists.  Dr. Lewis is currently an associate professor with the Department of Counseling and Human Services at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York.
