SUMMARY:Empowering the Black Mind: A Conversation on How We Navigate White Fragility
DESCRIPTION:Join NYABPsi in a community conversation on White fragility\, how it impacts us\, and acknowledging and accepting our feelings and reactions as we face it. Our conversation\, facilitated by NYABPsi Past President Tanya White-Davis\, PsyD\, will allow us to come together to talk about ways to liberate ourselves towards emotional equity\, and to support\, encourage\, and Zola (love) up on each other. \n\n\n\nWe hope you’ll join us! \n\n\n\n\nClick to register for this event on Zoom! \n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Tanya White- Davis\, PsyD \n\n\n\n\nDr. Tanya White-Davis is a Clinical Psychologist who has worked in the field of primary care psychology for over a decade. She is a current board member and past president of the New York Association of Black Psychologists. Dr. White-Davis earned her degree with a concentration in Health Psychology from Nova Southeastern University. She completed a two year post-doctoral fellowship in Primary Care Family Psychology with a Pediatric Psychology track at the University of Rochester. She also completed the Behavioral Science Family Educators Fellowship program within the national Society for Teachers of Family Medicine which has enhanced her work in graduate medical education. She is director of the Division of Primary Care Behavioral Health Education\, and a full-time faculty member in the Department of Family and Social Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx. In this position\, Dr. White-Davis teaches and manages the behavioral health education within the Family Medicine\, Social Pediatric\, and Primary Care Social Internal Medicine Residency programs. Additionally\, she teaches and supervises primary care psychology trainees in the Advanced Primary Care Psychology Fellowship and Primary Care Psychology Externship programs. Dr. White-Davis has provided primary care psychotherapy services to children\, adolescents\, and families of the Bronx\, with professional interests in bullying\, race and racism\, family systems and empowerment\, primary care psychology\, and health disparities.\n\n\n\nThis event is free and open to public\, members and non-members\n\n\n\nThe Harambee Initiative aims to inspire\, encourage and uplift Black individuals\, families\, and communities as we face the COVID-19 pandemic. Harambee\, Swahili for “Let’s pull together”\, is a reminder of our strength\, heritage\, and rootedness in community. DESCRIPTION:Somatic experiencing practitioner and certified mindfulness meditation teacher Francesca Maximé will lead a 15-20 minute guided meditation. Then we’ll transition into chair dancing with a “back in the day” Zoom dance party and release some of our stress with some of the top tunes from the 80’s and 90’s!\n\n\n\n\nClick to register for this event on Zoom! \n\n\n\n\n\nFrancesca Maximé\, SEP\, CMT-P\, IFOT\, RLT \n\n\n\n\nFrancesca Maximé is a Haitian-Dominican Italian-American IMTA-accredited certified mindfulness meditation teacher mentored by Jack Kornfield\, Somatic Experiencing Trauma Healing Practitioner\, Indigenous Focusing Oriented Therapy practitioner\, Relational Life Therapy couples coach\, Focusing Oriented Therapy practitioner\, and award-winning poet\, author\, and former television news anchor and reporter. Francesca is based in Brooklyn\, New York where she sees adults\, couples and groups in person and online\, and teaches therapists and other trauma specialists about mindfulness\, the nervous system\, attachment\, embodiment and racialized trauma. Francesca also hosts the  Francesca Maximé Archives – Be Here Now Network 2020  where she explores the intersection of psychology\, neuroscientce\, sprituality\, social justice\, and the creative arts. Francesca was also the recipient of the 2019 International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies Student Advocacy and Service award for her contributions in the field of advocacy\, clinical work and traumatic stress\, as well as the 2019 first prize winner of the   Allen Ginsberg Poetry Awards  for her poem\, “Pleather\,” recently featured on PBS television. Last year\, she was also featured in the article\,  Spreading the Word about Racialized Trauma  by the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Disassociation. SUMMARY:Healing Conversation: Coping with Racial Trauma and Channeling Black Rage & Pain
DESCRIPTION:As we continue to witness and experience anti-Black violence\, most notably with the recent murder of George Floyd\, and be disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic\, community support and dialogue are essential. \n\n\n\nJoin NYABPsi for a healing Conversation on addressing our racial trauma and channeling Black rage & pain.   \n\n\n\nThis workshop will explore the signs & symptoms of racial trauma\, the most effective healthy coping strategies to address trauma\, and ways to manage Black rage and pain.   \n\n\n\nTogether we’ll learn how to overcome barriers to healing from trauma and how to create a Healthy Coping Action Plan for sustained engagement and stress reduction. This healing conversation will be facilitated by NYABPsi past president Dr. Richard Orbe-Austin. \n\n\n\n\nAbout Richard Orbe-Austin\, PhD \n\n\n\n\nDr. Richard Orbé-Austin is an executive coach and a licensed psychologist. He is a co-founder and partner of Dynamic Transitions Psychological Consulting\, a career and executive coaching consultancy. Dr. Orbé-Austin is a Past President of the NY Association of Black Psychologists\, and a former executive board member. During his term as President\, he focused on increasing the awareness of mental wellness in the community\, and on addressing mental health disparities.Dr. Orbé-Austin’s opinions have appeared in a variety of publications\, including Forbes\, Fast Company\, Diversity Executive\, & ThriveGlobal.
